Shakespeare's comedy of the mid-1590s tangles four Athenian lovers, a company of amateur actors and a quarrelling fairy court in a single enchanted night in the woods. It is a play about the unreliability of desire and perception, the transforming power of imagination, and the theatre's own trick of making 'airy nothing' real.
