nicomachean ethics · aristotle

Aristotle's Ethics asks what the good life for a human being is and answers that it is activity of the soul in accordance with virtue, over a whole life. It works out the doctrine of the mean, the moral and intellectual virtues, choice and responsibility, friendship and pleasure, and ends by ranking contemplation as the highest happiness.

Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics, translated by Terence Irwin (Hackett Publishing, 2019). Read in full over three sessions, Freshman Fall at Torrey Honors: Books I to VII, then Books VIII to X.
