Edmund Burke's Reflections of 1790, written before the Terror, attacked the French Revolution as an experiment in abstract reason that would end in tyranny. It defends prescription, prejudice, inherited liberty and the partnership between the dead, the living and the unborn, and it is the founding text of modern conservatism.
