Sophocles' play of around 429 BC shows Oedipus, king of plague-stricken Thebes, hunting the murderer of the previous king until the investigation reveals himself. Aristotle's model tragedy, it is about knowledge and blindness, fate and responsibility, and a man destroyed by the same intelligence that made him great.
